Church Picnic This Sunday - everyone invited!!
Please join us for our annual church picnic THIS Sunday. We have a wonderful afternoon of fun planned for the entire family starting at noon at Borchard Park (190 Reino Road - between Newbury Park H.S. and the tennis courts). There will be a barbeque lunch, games, and a jumper for the kids. If you are willing and able to bring food (it would be greatly appreciated), please sign up at church. This picnic is for EVERYONE, so please invite a friend. This is a great opportunity to meet new people and connect with others at The Place.
Youth Sunday Soccer - starting Sept. 18th
The Place is starting a youth soccer league for kids aged 3-11. All games will take place on Sunday mornings for 10 weeks, starting September 18th. All games will take place on the CAES field and will begin at 10 a.m. We will have sign up sheets at The Place and you will need to pre-register for insurance purposes. We will have soccer coaches and training prior to each game. In Spring we will be advertising in the community so others may join. But, feel free to INVITE your friends and neighbors. For information or to register, call Jason Mosley @ 310-824-3816. The cost is $25 if you are pre-registered or $30 if you register on 9/18. The cost includes uniforms, equipment, and basic insurance. Kids will need their own cleats and shin guards.
5K for Charity-Get Out & Move - SIGN UP NOW!
The Place is organizing a 5K Run/Walk to raise awareness of childhood obesity and inform parents, children and families to help reverse these trends. We are also raising funds for Hacienda Oaks Estates, an organization in Simi Valley that will teach functional life skills to adults with Autism and other related developmental disabilities and neurological disorders. Beach Vespers/Baptism NEXT Friday
We will have our next beach vespers on Friday, September 16th. All are invited to come out for an evening of fellowship, hot dog dinner, and worship and a special baptism. Please bring an accompaniment for hot dogs (salad, side dish, chips, dessert). We will share dinner, worship, fellowship and joy in the Lord. We look forward to seeing you at 5:30 p.m. at Sycamore Cove.
Adventurers Club - Parents Meeting This Sabbath
We invite all children between the ages of 5-9 years, to sign up and join us for the 2nd year of our Adventurer Club. Angelo Baher is our leader and will have a schedule of activities within the next couple of weeks. The club has regular meetings; works on honors; has discipleship; and an overall good time together. There will be a parents meeting on Sept. 10th and the first adventurers club meeting is tentatively scheduled for Sabbath, September 24th. Please contact Angelo for more details at 805-428-4170. Pray for our Portugal Mission
We invite you to pray for the volunteers who are presently in Portugal. The volunteers departed on Wednesday to build a health clinic outside of Lisbon. Please pray that God's spirit would be poured out over all who are there and for the volunteers' protection.
Pray for Pastor Simon
Pastor Simon will be leaving on September 22 for Finland to speak for an Evangelism series and young adult camp-meeting. We invite you to pray specifically for the church in Oulu, Finland that is hosting the evangelism that the Holy Spirit will reign and lives will be changed. Worthy Student Financial Aid-Last Sabbath to turn in apps
We invite members whose children are attending a local SDA elementary or academy to apply for financial assistance from our worthy student fund for the upcoming school year. If you can help by donating to our worthy student fund we also invite your support as part of your giving to The Place. We will have applications available at church this week and it will be the LAST Sabbath to turn in your applications as the deadline for application is Sept. 15th.
New Collegiate class/Vespers THIS Friday
A new Collegiate class has begun...and continues weekly on Sabbaths at 10:30 a.m. in the back of the sanctuary. The class is hosted by Andrew & Natasha Geigle (Pastor John & Melissa Lubke will also be involved.) Join us on Facebook @ "The Place Collegiates" page for all the information. Fellowship Luncheon Next Sabbath
All are invited to our Fellowship Luncheon next Sabbath, September 17th. Our luncheon will take place following church services and our theme will be haystacks. Please bring an accopaniment for haystacks or a dessert. We hope to see you there.
Prayer Ministry Meeting

Adventure Group/Small Group Orientation - Oct. 29th
On Sabbath afternoon October 29th we will have an adventure group/small group orientation for all those who are interested in finding out more information about how to lead an 'adventure' group or small group. Save the date.
LA KINGS HOCKEY-Sign Up Now
Once again we have 40 group tickets for the Kings v. Blackhawks game on Saturday night, November 26th. If you sign up NOW for that game, you will receive FREE tickets to the LA Kings v. Mighty Ducks game on Sunday, September 25th! So, sign up this Sabbath!
Christmas Shoppe - willing to serve on the committee?
Christmas Shoppe this year will be Dec 10 and the planning process is now underway. As Frank and Joyce Thomsen cannot be involved this year, we are looking to find out if anyone at The Place is interested on being on the planning committee and take a leadership role this year. In order to have members from our church be able to attend the pre-shoppe on Friday night, someone from The Place must serve on the committee. It is a big time committment...but a very worthwhile cause!! If you are interested, please contact Pastor Simon asap.
NO Women's Ministry THIS Monday
The women's ministry will not meet at its usual time this Monday, Sept. 12th at The Place. It will resume again at it's normal time on Monday, Sept. 26th at 7:00 p.m. Thanks.
Can you help a blind member with a ride?
One of our members Kayla Legare (who is BLIND) is starting graduate work at Cal Lutheran (TO campus) this week. She needs some help getting to and from school for a couple months (not permanently). If you are going from Simi to TO or vice versa at the following times and would be willing to help it would be a lifesaver... Monday- arriving in TO by 4:00PM, leaving TO to Simi at 6:50PM Tuesday-4:00 PM to 6:50PM Wednesday-4:00PM to 9:50PM. The times can be early by one hour arriving in TO or getting picked up a half hour late from TO back to Simi ...she is certainly willing to reimburse for gas and travel both ways.
