This Week at The Place
We invite you to join us this Sabbath at The Place as we come together to worship and praise. This week Pastor Simon will continue his series "Living Dangerously" with a sermon titled "Not As It Should Be" which will go over Romans 8:18-27.
Dean Palacio will lead us in praise and worship and there will be special music by Jabari and Yvonne Washington as well as a children's story.
We invite you to attend one of our many Sabbath school classes. You may choose from cradle roll, kindergarten, primary, junior/earliteen, youth, young adult, or adult class...you are sure to be blessed.
We also invite you to our prayer time this Sabbath at 10:00 a.m. Come and pray over our service or be prayed for individually by our prayer team.

First Sabbath Out This Sabbath
We invite EVERYONE to come out this Sabbath afternoon (August 7) and enjoy a time of fellowship and fun together. We will go to Marina Park Beach in Ventura around 2:00 p.m. (From the 101 take the Seaward Avenue exit and turn towards the ocean. Drive until you reach Pierpont Avenue. Turn left and drive until you reach the end of the road.) FREE parking. Bring a PICNIC or come after you eat...but, we will be there for the afternoon.
A section of Marina Park Beach is protected by a breakwater at southern tip of the arm of land that forms the entrance to the Ventura harbor. With no big waves, it makes a great place for the kids. Further along, there's also a section that faces directly onto the ocean. Besides the beaches, there's a grassy area with a playground that includes a fun, cement-and-wood ship to climb on, a perfect spot for a beautiful Sabbath afternoon.
Financial Aid Application
The school year is about to begin and we invite families who need tuition assistance for their child to attend a local SDA elementary or academy to fill out an application. They are available at the back table. We also need help with donations to help these families. Please consider donating to our worthy student fund today! Deadline is September 11th, 2010.
Women's Ministry
Our new women's ministry has been meeting regularly and if you are female, we invite you to come! This is the women's ministry calendar:
THIS Monday, August 9th - BIBLE STUDY @ 7 p.m. @ The Place. Please meet us for tea, snacks, and a night of exploring chapter 3 of Captivating by John & Stasi Eldridge. We will meet bi-monthly on the 2nd & 4th Monday nights of every month.
Sunday, August 15th: Ladies Spa Day, please RSVP if you plan to attend at all.
Monday, August 23rd- Bible study @ 7 p.m. @ The Place, we will go over chapter 4 of Captivating.
Ladies Spa Day
There will be a Ladies Spa Day on Sunday, August 15th at Annette Siver's home. Annette has graciously offered her home so that ladies may lounge by the pool, have lunch, and a treatment of their choice. Spa day will be from 11-3 p.m. Please RSVP if you plan to attend and have lunch (as we will be ordering food and would like to know how many to plan ) and sign up for a treatment of choice, please contact Cecilia Liversidge, phone # (310) 699-3521 or Sandra Haynes phone # (805) 376-5519. We must have a minimum number of people interested in massages and manicures/pedicures/botox in order to have these available, so don't delay and sign up today:)

Community Service Project-Back To School
We are collecting back-to-school supplies for kids in need of assistance at The Place and RAIN Transitional Living Center. New backpacks and back-to-school supplies for kids of all ages are needed. Our goal is to help 30 students start the school year off right with the supplies they need. There is a box in the lobby for your donations. Cash or checks to help purchase supplies are also welcome. Honduras Mission Trip
Please continue to pray for our mission trip volunteers as they are presently in Honduras working at two orphanages. Pray that God will bless them with power and love for the kids and the staff.
Mission Trip Fundraiser
Although the Honduras mission is leaving this week, our CHAD mission will not leave until September 15. So, we invite your continued assistance in raising money to support that mission by bringing your recylables. PLEASE bring your recyclables to church so we can take them off your hands and return for cash!!Just bring them to church and let Donna Goldman know. August Social - Bowling next Saturday night
Our next social is scheduled for Saturday evening, August 14th. All invited for an evening of bowling at Harley's Simi Bowl. More details to come. But, sign up this Sabbath to reserve your spot.
Beach Vespers
Our next vespers is scheduled for Friday, August 20th at Sycamore Cove at 6:00 p.m. We invite you to come and share a beautiful time of worship and fellowship.
New Discipleship Class
A new discipleship class will be starting in September with Pastor Simon. The class will be covering Richard Foster's book "The Celebration of Discipline." This fantastic book explores spiritual disciplines and how to make them real in your life. It will meet on Sabbath morning at 10:30 a.m. Please sign up this Sabbath.
Essential Oils Class
There will be a follow up meeting on the 12 essential oils of the Bible that Shirley Chase did at Sabbath school a couple of months ago. We will have the meeting on Monday evening, August 16th from 6:30 to 8:30. at The Place!

Aug 6-8 - THIS weekend many of our youth are on our annual Lake Nacimiento Wakeboard Trip.
Friday night, August 13th - Youth Vespers at the Moon's house in Newbury Park (801 Tioga Place.) There will be worship, BBQ and games from 6 - 9 p.m.

Mondays (during the week previous to playing) we are having our youth band practice. If any of you high schoolers are gifted with an instrument or singing, please let me know, as we would LOVE to have you involved :-)

Wednesdays from 7-9 pm we have our high school small group meeting @ Pastor Steve's house (3862 Coronado Circle, Newbury Park). Come check it out!

Thursdays from 6-8pm we will begin having open gym time @ the NPAA gym for the youth and collegiates beginning next week (June 17th).

Fridays from 1-3 p.m. we are playing tennis @ Borchard Park in Newbury Park. This is a PERFECT opportunity for you to invite a friend who is not connected to the church. If you are interested but have transportation issues, please let Pastor Steve know.

THIS FRIDAY - SMALL GROUP @ Randy Aybar's home at 7:30 p.m. Randy lives at 296 Fawn Valley Ct., Simi Valley. Bring your Bible as we're studying...well...great chapters of the Bible.
NEW STUDY in SABBATH SCHOOL
We're starting a new study in the book of LUKE...come find out all the things you thought you already new about the gospel. We're meeting in a new spot, the Mother's Room in the other wing of the church. Just ask the greeters and they'll tell you where to go....10:30 am!! This week we'll be looking at Luke Ch. 2. Michael Peabody will lead our study.
STILL SOME SPOTS LEFT FOR CAMPING IN YOSEMITE
Sign Up At The Place for our young adult camping trip to Yosemite the third weekend in September. We can do whatever we want...hike up to half dome, Yosemite or Vernal Falls and have all around good times. SIGN UP at The Place, we're asking for a committment of $20 to pay for the campsites/food/etc.
SAT AFTERNOON @ THE GETTY VILLA
We've done the Getty now it's time for it's predecessor, come with us Sat. afternoon Aug. 21 to the ORIGINAL Getty Villa in Malibu. We'll leave right after church.
VOLLEYBALL
Next volleyball night is Sat. night August 14. This is the best way to have some fun and meet new people. ANYONE CAN PLAY, don't feel like you're not qualified, we take all kinds! 7:30 pm at the Newbury Park Academy Gym.
MORE VOLLEYBALL!
If you like volleyball then come play EVERY TUES NIGHT. We'll be there from 5:30 - 8:00 pm so when you get off work come get some exercise. (Borchard Road, Newbury Park). There's been a good group of people every week @ Dos Vientos Community Park so come play.
EAT and MEET CREW
DON'T GO HOME after church or the cafe, come out to lunch with the eat and meet crew! Every week we're heading somewhere to eat, talk, laugh, meet
new people and enjoy the Sabbath together.
