Happy New Year - get involved
At
The Place, we would like to designate 2012 as the year of the FAMILY.
This does NOT mean you will be left out if you are single! What it does
mean is that in 2012 we will be focusing on our spiritual growth of
knowing what it means to be a child of God and part of the family of
God. We will also be growing in hearing the voice of God our Father as
he speaks to us.
As part of our focus, we
are inviting EACH family (or individual if you are single) to
participate during the worship service during 2012. Specifically, we
invite you to share a (not too long) testimony about how God has moved
in your life. You may also share special music, drama, reading, poem or
any other form of worship you would like. As a first step to making this
happen,weI invite you to respond to Pastor Simon directly by choosing a
week you are interested in doing this! If we don't hear from you, we
will be contacting you throughout the year to invite you to
participate. We are excited to hear your stories and experience your
worship!
New Member/Spiritual Gifts Orientation
For
those of you who would like to be involved in ministry, but are not
sure what to do, we would like to invite you to be part of our welcome
to the place/spiritual gifts meeting. We will meeting about 2x a month
on Sabbath mornings at 9:30 a.m. at Starbucks with Bill Werner - and
will be done before church starts. We are inviting all new members to
participate...but even if you have been around for a while but not sure
how best to be involved in our community, we would love to have you
participate. The first one will be on January 28th.
Meals for the Buttlers
Last
month Brent and Simone Buttler had their daughter, Rebecca. All are
doing well but are ready for meals since Simone went back to work this
week. They are vegetarians (not spicy) but dairy is okay. The Buttlers
live at 2745 Tumbleweed Ave in Simi Valley. They prefer to eat between
6-6:30 p.m. If you would like to help them, please contact Cecilia
Liversidge @ 310-699-3521. They are due to receive meals until January 20th. Thank you.
Guys Night Out - THIS Wednesday
All
the men are invited to come out on Wednesday night, January 11th. The
men will meet at Sunil's house in Camarillo (1451 Menta Lane) at 6:30
p.m. for sports and dinner.
Bowling Next Saturday Night
We are rolling out the new year with a

Valley. The cost is $7 per person. Come join the fun and bring a

Memorial Fund for Adam David Appel
As many of you know by now, little Adam
Appel passed away last week at six months of age due to a seizure as a
result of malaria. Many of you have expressed profound sadness and have
asked if you could help in any way. We are going to establish a
memorial fund that will be dedicated to help build the hospital in
Mondou, Tchad, where James, Sarah and Miriam are at the present time.
The website will be up and running in the next few days. In the mean
time, you can always support their mission by giving at www.theplacechurch.com and marking your donations for the Bere Mission. Thanks so much for your continued love, prayers and support for this family.
Fellowship Luncheon & Church Business Meeting
All are invited to stay following church
services on Sabbath, January 21st for our monthly fellowship luncheon.
The annual church business meeting will take place following the
luncheon at 2 p.m. This is an opportunity for everyone to be able to
review and bring ideas to the church finances, membership, vision and
plans for the future.
Reach Out Sabbath
We would like to be more involved in our
community on a more consistent basis. In an effort to reach that goal,
we would like to have regular opportunities to be able to minister to
others and to bless our community. Starting in a few weeks, we will
have a couple of opportunities a month for you to get involved. If you
are interested in LEADING out in any area (could be just a ONE time
thing!), please talk to Randall Goulard.
Mission trip this year?
We will meet briefly after church next
Sabbath, January 14th to discuss the possible mission trip options for
2012. We are again looking at early August or early September. The 2
most likely projects are in India and Nicaragua. If you have an
interest in going, please come and express your opinion.
